Nokia 6 update brings August security patch, solves WiFi connectivity issue


After being sold out under 1 minute in the flash sale on Amazon India, Nokia 6 has received the August security patch along with some fixes. HMD Global has deployed the OTA update to resolve WiFi compatibility issues and add screenshot shortcut to the Notification panel toggles.
Some customers had complained about WiFi connectivity issues that are addressed in this update. The 163MB update carries the August Security patch for Nokia 6 in India, along with the fix to WiFi issue, and adding a new feature to the smartphone.

About Nokia 6 update

HMD Global promised that Nokia phones will receive monthly security updates for two years and the Nokia 6 received the August security patch just after the Pixel received it, which is really fast. This promise also means that Nokia 6 will soon be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo as Pixel is already receiving the update.
Coming to the update, it is a 163MB update which has the latest August Security patch along with a fix for WiFi connectivity issues being faced by some customers. Along with security patch and fixes, Nokia 6 has received a new toggle for the Notification panel. By tapping this toggle, you can take screenshots easily on your Nokia 6.

Nokia 6 Specifications


Starting with the display, you get a 5.5 inch full HD display with 2.5D curved glass and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Capacitive navigation keys and a fingerprint sensor are placed below the display.
At the back, you get a 16MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual Tone LED flash. An 8MP front camera with f/2.0 and a wide-angle lens is given for selfies and video calling.
In terms of hardware, you get a Snapdragon 430 processor, coupled with Adreno 505 GPU. This combination is accompanied by 3GB RAM and 32GB Internal Storage along with up to 128GB expansion option.
The Nokia 6 runs Stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and comes with monthly updates. The device may soon get an update to Android 8.0 Oreo.
Powered by a 3,000mAh battery, the Nokia 6 is a dual SIM 4G VoLTE enabled smartphone and it offers micro USB port, 3.5mm earphone jack, Bluetooth, and WiFi as standard connectivity options.

Currently being sold in flash sales as an Amazon exclusive, the Nokia 6 is available in Matte Black, Tempered Blue, and Silver colors. It is priced at Rs. 14,999.

IDC: Global smartphone shipments to decline by 12% in 2020

The latest predictions from analysts IDC concerns the global smartphone shipments and they sound properly grim. Total shipments for 2020 are expected to reach 1.2 billion units which would be an 11.9% decline compared to 2019. The new estimate is based on the Q1 shipment results which saw the largest decline in smartphone sales in the history of IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker at -14.5%. Looking at the first half of 2020, IDC predicts an 18.2% decline in shipments due to lowered consumer spending. According to IDC’s Sangeetika Srivastava, the main issue now is a lack of demand on behalf of consumers. On a more regional basis, the new report suggests that China will see a single-digit decline in shipments for the current year as COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted and demand is slowly recovering.
