Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 launched with bezel-less display and curved ceramic body

Xiaomi today unveiled the Mi Mix 2 at a launch event in Beijing. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is this year’s bezel-less flagship from the company. The device has been launched with a 5.99 inch display and an 18:9 aspect ratio.
The phone is nearly bezel-less and other specifications include a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB RAM, 256GB of internal storage and a 12MP primary camera. Before the launch, Xiaomishowcased a video on its website which included user feedback about the Mi Mix, and expectations from the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Specifications

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 features a beautiful curved ceramic body with 7000-series aluminum frame. It features an anti-slippery back with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It is 11.9% smaller and 2.5% thinner than its predecessor. The device features a 5.99 inch full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and curved edges.

In the optics department, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 sports a 12MP primary camera with 4-axis OIS, f/2.0 aperture and an 18K gold plated rim. On the front, it comes with a 5MP secondary camera placed at the bottom.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix is powered by an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor clubbed with Adreno 540 GPU. It comes with 6GB RAM and will be available in 64GB / 128GB / 256GB internal storage variants.
With Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 on top, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 runs on Android 7.1 Nougat. The phone is powered by a 3,400 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS / GLONASS / Beidou, and USB Type-C port. The earpiece is replaced by Cantilever piezoelectric acoustic system.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Limited Edition
A limited edition of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 has also been unveiled alongside the Mi Mix 2. The limited edition variant is made of a Ceramic Unibody compared to the Ceramic and Metal build of the regular Mi Mix 2. It comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Apart from this, all other specifications are the same as the regular Mi Mix 2.

Pricing and Availability

With a competitive price tag, the 64GB variant of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is priced at CNY 3,299 (Roughly Rs. 32,300). The 128GB variant is priced at CNY 3,549 (Rs. 34,700) and the 256GB version is pegged at CNY 3,999 (Rs. 39,200).
The limited edition variant of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is priced at an CNY 4,699 (Rs. 46,070). The Mi Mix 2 shall soon be available in India as Xiaomi is aggressively expanding their Indian presence.

IDC: Global smartphone shipments to decline by 12% in 2020

The latest predictions from analysts IDC concerns the global smartphone shipments and they sound properly grim. Total shipments for 2020 are expected to reach 1.2 billion units which would be an 11.9% decline compared to 2019. The new estimate is based on the Q1 shipment results which saw the largest decline in smartphone sales in the history of IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker at -14.5%. Looking at the first half of 2020, IDC predicts an 18.2% decline in shipments due to lowered consumer spending. According to IDC’s Sangeetika Srivastava, the main issue now is a lack of demand on behalf of consumers. On a more regional basis, the new report suggests that China will see a single-digit decline in shipments for the current year as COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted and demand is slowly recovering.
